My daughter is apparently having seizures. She fainted at school three times this week. Her school nurse saw it happen the last time, and said that her back went stiff, her eyes rolled back in her head and fluttered and her eyelids fluttered. She had an MRI on her brain yesterday and she's scheduled for an EEG next week.

Healing thoughts and prayers appreciated. I want to know what's wrong with my baby girl so we can fix it.

I know we have talked on IM, but just to say I'm sure they will find out the cause, and fix her up!
Cass!

Well hopefully it's just part of growing up or too many e-numbers in her diet, which is far more likely than an epileptic seizure, especially if there is no history of such in your family.

I can remember young girls fainting at our disco's for no apparent reason, other than they'd got too hot/ over excited, or whatever.

Having just come back from Florida and this time looked at some of the food and drink labelling whilst there, I'd have a real good look at her diet for starters, cos it is full of stuff that is banned over here!!!

Big hug to you and your mom, and even bigger hug to Steph

BIG HUGGGGGGGGGSSSSSS

I think Ladysmith may well be right! Try to give her basic foods, nothing processed, more fresh fruit and veg etc. E numbers are evil!Especially stuff like soda pop and colourings, they are trouble!

What are E numbers?

Her diet could probably be better; she eats a lot of chicken, and not a lot of fresh fruits and veg.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_number

E numbers are artificial colours and flavours, food additives etc. They been proven to cause behaviour problems in kids, and can also be a cause of migraine, allergies and a number of other things. Try to give her five portions of fruit and veg every day, which can include 2 portions of real fruit juice, not the stuff with additives. Also plenty of wholemeal bread, lean meat, salads etc, and milk and eggs If you avoid the per-packed stuff, you should be fine. And stay clear of anything lurid in colour!

Yeah, she likes luridly coloured drinks, like blue Gatorade. She does drink a lot of plain water though.

The emergency room doctor thought that she might be low on electrolytes, which is why she's drinking the Gatorade.

But she eats scrambled eggs and cheese on a biscuit (the southern American version of a biscuit) every morning for breakfast; my mom makes it for her every morning.

Chatted to her indoors, who asked, is she being pushed too hard at school? Or trying too hard? Or doing too much? Or trying to prove she can do so much? The brain can just shut down if it's had enough. What were the circumstances both at school, which lesson, things at home and other female things?

She might be pushing herself too hard and not getting enough sleep. Her school workload is pretty brutal. She didn't fall out while we were shopping today even though we were annoyed because we couldn't find what we wanted (we decided to just make it).

The first time it happened she was in PE class but they were done playing volleyball. The second and third times she was in her film classes.

She may also be anemic; my stepdad was worrying about that with her.

And other factors, like the temperature, or whether she was dehydrated, or hungry! You said she carries a huge bag of books around, which will burn up calories faster! There are many things which could have triggered this! Also, at her age it could be hormonal, or she may just be suffering from some kind of infection, such as in her ear! Leave no stone unturned!

Yeah, we've thought about her ears. She just got over yet another ear infection right before this started happening. We'll see what the EEG and MRI reveal and go from there.

My youngest brother started having seizures when he was 25. Turned out to be due to viral meningitis when he was born. He controls it with medication and hasn't had a seizure in about 10 years.
I hope things go well for Mini-me.
