Little Guy went to the vet today. He's eight weeks old, according to the vet, which is a little older than I thought he was. I thought he was six weeks old at the most. He's healthy, free of feline leukemia or feline AIDS, and he got dewormed and his first distemper vaccination. He also doesn't have ear mites like I was afraid he did. He just had dirty ears. He was really well-behaved at the vet; they had to draw blood twice because the first feline leukemia test didn't work right and they had to redo it. He didn't fuss or cry, although he didn't like being poked with the needle and then held where the needle had gone in to keep him from bleeding until the blood clotted. He can't have a feline leukemia/FIV vaccination yet (he's not old enough) but he's got to go back to the vet in two weeks for his next distemper booster and his feline leukemia/FIV shot, and then again in a month to be neutered and get his rabies shot. Then he'll go to Eric and Fat Cat.

The vet and the vet tech were rather impressed with his cuteness. The vet picked him up and cheered when the feline leukemia test came back negative. The vet tech snuggled him and gave him a kiss. Nicholas said he almost came on to the vet tech; she was quite cute in a goth/punk way.

CC also went to the vet; he's been biting himself really badly. The vet says he's allergic to fleas, and I think he's also allergic to his flea shampoo, so I bought some Comfortis for flea prevention and we'll just quit flea-shampooing him. He gets to start a course of prednisone and the Comfortis (has to be given with food, so it's got to wait until I feed him) in the morning to reduce the inflammation, and hopefully by the time he's finished with the pred he'll be flea-free and have shed the allergens in the flea shampoo and be a generally happier, less itchy dog. When I took him to the vet last month for his annual check-up and stuff, the vet had us start him on Cosequin because he's been favoring one hip, and he's almost 8 years old, so he's apparently starting to get a bit arthritic. The Cosequin is working beautifully; he's not limping or favoring that hip, or growling at you if you touch it wrong. So if we can just get his allergies under control, he'll be doing quite well for a dog his age. He really is a good dog, and Cliff adores him. Nicholas loves him too, and CC quickly figured out that he can go to Nicholas for pets and love. Got to take care of the CC.

Little Guy is starting to be a good bit more social with CC and Tessa and Sweetie Pie. He's still a little skittish, but he's not spending nearly as much time hiding behind the dryer, and he will now stay still when you approach him and let you pet him. Tessa is being jealous, I think. She still hisses at him sometimes, and I think she's mad because he's getting a lot of my attention. She's used to being the primary kitty recipient of my pets and love. Sweetie Pie is a little more laid back about the whole thing. CC just wants to play with him. CC wants to play with any animal, which is sweet of him but not always too smart. He has a few scars on his nose and face from cats who didn't want to play.

So we will be giving over to Eric and Fat Cat a healthy and well-socialized Little Guy. I can already tell I'll miss him. He's a sweet kitten. I hope he'll be happy with Eric and Fat Cat, and I hope Eric will keep us posted on how Little Guy is doing once he's living there.
