Well, I posted last week about having fallen and owied my feet, and then a few days ago I posted about contacting a lawyer about the whole mess, since Cliff's landlord really shouldn't allow this sort of hazard on the property.

After two days of playing telephone tag with the lawyer (every time he called me I was asleep and every time I called him he was either out of his office or with a client), I now have a lawyer who is willing to try to make the landlord pay for my injuries! And he's working on a contingency basis, which means that I don't owe him squat unless he wins!

And to boot, Cliff talked to the psychiatric evaluator at the hospital, and she recommended a good psychiatrist, so hopefully I'll have a decent doctor again soon.

ETA: The law firm's investigator just called me, and he will be coming by this afternoon around 5pm. Double yay!!

ETA part 2: The law firm's investigator took a lot of information; I am now not supposed to talk to anyone (especially the landlord, his insurance company, and probably not the maintenance man either) but rather direct them to the law firm. The investigator took a lot of pictures of the area where I fell; I may go take some after it gets good and dark so I can show what the area looked like when I actually fell. I also emailed the lawyer the pictures Cliff took of the pot hole, and I let the lawyer know that I have pictures of my feet, which are both visibly injured. I also still have the cast. The investigator said that the entire parking area is a HUGE liability risk; one of my neighbors asked if he'd be paying his rent to me, because the landlord is broke, and joked that I'm going to own this place. It made me laugh.

I told the investigator that all I really want is the medical bills to be paid and I want the landlord to be forced to repair the damn hole (which would probably entail resurfacing the parking area entirely). Anything above that is just icing on the cake.

Well, damn

Because of my spectacular lack of grace in falling and hurting my feet, I cannot go to the family reunion this weekend. (My mother's paternal aunt is hosting it at her home, which is apparently quite large and has a swimming pool.) Since I can neither walk nor drive, and as I seem to be coming down with some sort of cold and therefore can't be around my mother (who has immune system problems), I can't go.

My stepdad is now going in my place because he doesn't like Mom and Mini-me traveling alone; I think he likes me to go along so I can drive in case Mom can't or doesn't want to (she hates driving at night), and Mini-me is not quite old enough to drive. But now I can't drive, I wouldn't really be able to do anything except sit around and talk to people (which would have been fine), and there's probably no place to put my crutches in the car, as Mom doesn't understand the concept of "traveling lightly." (I'm not kidding; she will probably take at least two pieces of luggage [although some of my daughter's things will probably be in Mom's luggage] PLUS her train case PLUS her purse and tote bag for this weekend. They're leaving Saturday and probably returning Sunday evening or Monday morning.)

They're also having to board the cats at the veterinarian's clinic, as I can't really get to where Catarina likes to hide to grab her and make her take her meds, nor can I get to the area where their food bowls are, and I'd bet trying to scoop the litter box in my current state would be an adventure, too.

I wanted to go. It sounded like it would be a lot of fun.

My mom said that they do the reunion every other year or so, so I guess I can go the next time.

But damn it, I wanted to go this year. *pout*

A few days ago, I posted in [livejournal.com profile] _survivors_ about a couple of cards that appeared on PostSecret last Sunday.

Maybe because this is a holiday weekend coming up, PostSecret has been updated today; it is usually updated on Sundays.

This time three cards got my attention; two apply to me, and one hit me hard for other reasons.

This one is so "me" it's scary.

This one is less eerily accurate but still true.

And this one makes me want to tell the sender that it is SO COMPLETELY NOT her/his fault, and it makes me want to beat the hell out of the person who hurt her/him.
