Last night Jen and Rip took me (and Cliff) out for my birthday. We went to Dona Maria's for Mexican food, and then we went to ImprovJacksonville, the improv comedy theatre in the Jacksonville Landing.

For those not familiar with Jacksonville, the Landing is a semi-circular mall on the St. Johns River. It has some shops and quite a few restaurants, and one nightclub and a few other things. Sometimes special events are held there; the last time I can recall being there was for Sail Jacksonville (a sailing festival with tall ships and other fun stuff) in June of 2004.

It was a lot of fun. The improv troupe takes suggestions from the audience; some things were merely amusing and some were screaming, head-thrown-back hilarious. The later shows are apparently a little more adult, though still not too crazy. Cliff compared it to a live version of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" except with not-famous people on stage.

They dragged me and another woman whose birthday is next Tuesday up on stage and sang a short and silly birthday song to us.

It was really cool, and Jen wants to go again, so we probably will at some point in time. It wasn't hideously expensive; the regular admission is $10 per person on Friday and Saturday nights, but they let me in free because it was my birthday celebration, and Jen got in free because she'd comped the cashier something at Starbucks, and the guys got in half price because we still had our supper receipt from Dona Maria's. (If you have a receipt from a Landing restaurant, admission is half price.)
