One of those random question memes...

1. Name someone with the same birthday as you.
Kirstie Alley, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern...there are a few others, but these are the famous ones. Michelle Wallace, although that's not her last name any more, but my brothers' other sister, anyway, and Mary Parrish, my oldest brother's second wife.

2. Where was your first kiss?
On the playground at Northside Christian School, in 1981; I was in first grade, and I got chased around the playground by Randy Lee, who finally caught me and kissed me.

3. Have you ever seriously vandalized someone else's property?
No.

4. Have you ever hit someone of the opposite sex?
Not with serious intent to harm, but I do have a tendency to hit male friends in the shoulder, playfully and not very hard, or smack their bottoms (that has to be a very close friend though, I don't touch casual friends that intimately).

5. Have you ever sung in front of a large number of people?
Yes, plenty of times. Every Sunday of my life for about ten years I sang in front of 100-250 people (depending upon how many people were in church that morning).

6. What's the first thing you notice about the preferred sex?
I agree with [livejournal.com profile] madlori in that this question is as annoying as it is ubiquitous. However, I will answer it. Eyes. Actually, eyes are the first thing I notice about anybody, whether they are someone I might be attracted to or not.

7. What really turns you on?
A sexy speaking voice for purely visceral attraction, but intelligence and a good sense of humor for the more intellectual sort of turn-on.

8. What do you order at Starbucks?
I very seldom patronize Starbucks as I'm not a coffee drinker. Probably some sort of tea drink or maybe hot cider if it's cold outside.

9. What is your biggest mistake?
Marrying my ex-husband

10. Ever hurt yourself on purpose?
When I was a kid, I had a tendency to bite myself or hit myself when I was really upset. I think I was trying not to hurt other people.

11. Say something totally random about you.
I have brown eyes, and I wish they were green.

12. Has anyone ever said you looked like a celebrity?
I was told, years ago, that I resembled an actress who is very famous in the Philippines, but I don't remember the name, and it wasn't someone that Americans would recognize (I didn't).

13. Do you still watch kiddy movies or tv shows?
Sometimes. I don't watch that much television at all, but I did watch "Finding Nemo" recently, because I just felt like watching it.

14. Did you have braces?
Yup. For a little over two years.

15. Are you comfortable with your height?
Most of the time. (I'm 5'9"/175 cm.) When I was a kid, I thought I was going to turn out taller than I am; I've only grown two inches since age 13. I wish I were just a little taller sometimes, because as it stands, I'm just a little too tall for "average" cut clothes, but not quite tall enough for the "tall" cuts. And being tall has its downside; I'm taller than my boyfriend (who is quite short but still), I'm nearly as tall as my stepdad. Sometimes I feel unfeminine/clumsy/not graceful because I'm tall.

16. What is the most romantic thing someone of the preferred sex has done for you?
I've actually been the recipient of quite a few romantic gestures. One boyfriend made supper for me for my birthday; another boyfriend regularly wrote me poetry and brought me flowers (carnations usually, but sometimes roses). (I love carnations, for the record.) My current boyfriend did something romantic that will only make sense to other SCAdians, and it might not even make sense to all of them. He is in a mercenary household, and at Gulf Wars this year, when the household went to their employer to get their pay, he deliberately took his pay in gifts for me, including a heart-shaped brass box that I'm going to line with velvet and use for my "in garb" jewelry, a sun-and-moon pendant, and a really cool but extremely heavy pair of earrings.

17. When do you know it's love?
When someone becomes #2 on my list of important people. The #1 spot is reserved, now and forever, for my daughter.

18. Do you speak any other languages?
I used to be pretty good at Spanish, and I'd probably pick it back up fairly quickly if I used it again. I can also read French reasonably well, and I used to be damn good at translating Latin.

19. Have you ever been to a tanning salon?
No way, Jose. I don't tan. Period.

20. What magazines do you read?
None regularly. If I'm really bored I'll pick up Cosmo; I'll also read Newsweek or US News and World Report when I'm at my parents' house.

21. Have you ever ridden in a limo?
Yes. To my senior prom.

22. Has anyone you were really close with passed away?
My grandmother Prater (mom's mother), and my friend Michelle (within 6 months of each other, no less). Michelle was killed by a drunk driver in January 1997, and Grandmother Prater died of complications of leukemia in June.

23. Do you watch MTV?
Not in years

24. What's something that really annoys you?
Certain types of voices; anything scratchy (especially if that person's voice is always scratchy; I can forgive sickness- or allergy-induced scratchiness) or nasal, and certain accents (strong NYC/New Jersey area for one)

25. What's something you really like?
Cats

26. Do you like Michael Jackson?
I did, back when he made good music rather than weird news.

27. Can you dance?
Pretty well. Not any formal sort of dancing, but I can shake it in a nightclub pretty well, and I used to take belly dancing (which I miss, and will probably take up again when I'm in better health).

28. What's the latest you have ever stayed up?
Oh, I don't know. I've pulled a few 28-30 hour stretches of wakefulness.

29. Have you ever thought that you were honestly going to die?
Not really. I've had a few split-second fears, especially in near-miss car crash type situations.

30. Have you ever been rushed by an ambulance into the emergency room?
Yup. Wasn't much fun either. I was curled up in pain, barely able to speak. It turned out to be something really stupid but painful.

31. Do you actually read these when other people fill them out?
It depends on who filled it out. *grin*

Totally off topic, but I read your comment on my LJ (I vented to a friend, and he helped a WHOLE lot!) I was looking over your user info page, and checked out the communities you belong to, and they ROCK. Great taste in communities! (the quote one is fabulous!)

Just wanted to thank you for being there and thanks for the communities.

You're welcome. [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes is hilarious, and [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck is very funny if you've ever worked in customer service, although if I read it when I'm in a bad mood, I find it to be a bit of a downer.
