Last Sunday evening, I was driving up to the hospital to take something to Cliff at work when my right front tire went flat on me. After a panic attack and the assistance of Cliff's EMT partner and Rip and Jen, I got home and Cliff and I spent Monday sorting out the tire. (My spare was already on the car, from a few months ago when my left front tire got a split in the sidewall.) We removed the tire and found that the inside sidewall was absolutely shredded, so we took both that tire and the split tire that was in my trunk to Sam's (where my stepdad originally purchased them) and had them replaced. However, at the moment, we had no money with which to do this, so I had to call my mom and ask for help. She came down and paid for my tires and I went on my merry little way.
Tonight, I met my parents for a belated birthday supper. We went to Chizu, which is a Japanese steakhouse at the beach, and it was yummy, better than any other Japanese food I've had in Jacksonville, almost as good as Kyoto in Charleston (which I LOVE). I almost ordered some kappamaki but I didn't think my family would eat it (I found out later my mom would have helped me with it), and I didn't think I'd eat an entire roll by myself. (Mom is not supposed to eat sushi because she has a condition called neutropenia, which is a deficit of a certain type of white blood cell, but she could have the kappamaki because it doesn't have any raw fish in it.)
After supper we went back up to my parents' house and had chocolate cake. I had to fight my daughter for the cherry on top of the cake. Mom gave me my watch, which was supposed to be a Christmas gift.

But when she originally bought it they didn't have it in the silver/gold, only in gold, and I wanted the two-tone. So I unwrapped that watch on Christmas day, and now I have the two-tone one that I really wanted. I took a pic of it, which I'll post when I can; the USB ports are not working on this computer, so I can't get the pic from the digicam to Photobucket here.
After the cake, I tried to pay Mom back for having paid for my tires, and she wouldn't let me. She said I should consider it my birthday present.
So, for my birthday, I got taken out to dinner (twice, once by Rip and Jen, and once by my parents), I went out to an improv comedy club (with Rip and Jen), and I got the watch I was supposed to get for Christmas, and two new tires on my car. That works. *grin*
