I already have a Live Journal account; I am otherwise known as azdesertrose. So what, you may ask, is the point of opening a second journal?

Just for poems, and possibly for a few other writings. I don't really want my poems to be seen by everyone and his brother, but there are a few people who might enjoy seeing these, so here they are in a format that is locked to all but a select few.

I don't remember how old I was when I began writing poems.

I don't remember how old I was when I learnt to write or read.

So this is just a collection of the poetic ramblings of a very strange mind.

A few format notes. The poems that have been written since 2001 are dated correctly. A fair few of these poems are much older than that, and LJ will not let me backdate them to their correct dates of composition, so if the poem was composed before 2001, it is dated January 1, 2000 and the correct date of composition is in the title line.

Another thing: In my normal incarnation, I am a grammar/spelling/punctuation/capitalization Nazi. However, as a poet, I care much less about such things. I generally write in free verse; occasionally I'll write something in blank verse, or even more rarely, something that actually rhymes. Most of the time, though, it's very free-form. Many of my poems are written entirely in lower case with no punctuation at all. Some of the ones written in the 1990s were written while I was being very experimental, and the capitalization is a bit weird.

Also, I now identify myself as either an eclectic pagan or an agnostic with a mystical streak. This was not always the case. Some of these poems were written when I was a practicing United Methodist, so there are some references to God in some of the older poems. Deal with it. :D

I contemplated adding comments to the poems to explain some of the more obscure aspects of them, but I decided against that. This journal is friends-only, so if you want to know what was going through my head/why I wrote this/whatever, ask me.
